Oregon Association of REALTORS® work to stop transfer taxes

The Oregon Association of REALTORS® has launched a campaign to stop the initiation of real estate transfer taxes across Oregon, called Protect Oregon Homes.

The association is also promoting a REALTOR® Rally at the Capitol on March 16, 2011 starting at 10 a.m. There will be meetings with elected officials and an 11:30 BBQ at the Oregon State Capitol. Registration can be made here.

    We have transfer taxes in many of the communities here in Illinois and I can tell you that the only purpose they serve is to give cities, states and counties an additional opportunity to siphon money out of buyers and sellers. There are communities that have a 1% state transfer tax, .5% county transfer tax and 6% city transfer tax. That’s an additional 7.5% in taxes on selling a home! Extra fees are not what sellers need right now.
